Also many synthesizers that have floppy drives use the standard Shugart interface pinout; so, let's say this Shugart interface is what PSR 5700 has (controller is a HD63266F but I could not find much info about this).
And the long awaited solution: grab a floppy cable, cut wires 10, 12, 34 (remember that wire 1 is red-marked) and solder together
KEYBOARD (END2) FLOPPY (END1) 10------------------\ X---------------------- 12-------------X O-------------------------- 34------------------/ X----------------------remaining wires are untouched. X is a wire cut and insulated. O is where to solder

Fantastic.. You just saved me a lot of dosh for a floppy drive. FYI - This fix works perfectly with a Yamaha Clavinova (CVP-70) as well. Interestingly though, the brand new Sony FDD I bought would not power up in this piano, luckily I had an old teac FDD kicking about that did the trick. Thanks!!

My CVP75 has a female connector on the motherboard side (hard wired in) and the floppy drive has a male connector. No one makes a ribbon connector with a male connector on one side and female on the other. Is you model different? If not, how did you resolve that problem. Called the shop you listed and he said you brought the cable already configured correctly. Thanks, Al Lanoff

This fix also works for the Yamaha CVP-55. Note, however, that when I first tried it, I wasn't careful and went to a place that used an old "twisted" floppy drive cable designed for use with 2 drives on the same cable, which didn't work because the twist affects pins 10 and 12, but when we used a straight cable like the original, it fixed it as indicated and enabled me to use a "new" (i.e., non-as-ancient) replacement floppy drive in the machine. Per Yamaha service, the original replacement floppy is available, but for $168, parts only, so you saved me a bundle too. I had it rewired at Green Village Computers in NJ (973-377-5232) with an old cable they had lying around and they are the ones that pointed out the twist problem. I think it may still have the "doesn't recognize new disk" problem but simply turn the Clavinova off to start again.

Gage: 1. What brand/model floppy drive did you use? 2. Did the repairman do anything to the floppy drive? 3. What did he charge for his work? 4. Did you resolve the, "doesn't recognize disk," problem? thanks, Al Lanoff alamental@aol.com

erm hi guys, I need to throw out the floppy altogether find a floppy that has provision for memory cards and communicates with the yamaha by the floppy cable only. If anybody knows where I could buy such a device I would be grateful. Next: Is there a solution for installing a hard drive into a cvp 59 or cvp207. I know the psr9000 has provision for a hardrive. Many thanks: bob

Difficult questions, Bob. Cannot answer either one, sorry. But this page seems to get many hits, maybe someone will have more info.

where did you find the Mitsubishi drives? Yamaha USA says their not available. have read that only 2dd drives 720kb drives will work. does your fix work with any computer floppy drive?

I used a Sony drive as replacement, and it's a 1.44 MB. As far as I know any floppy drive would do.

Hi. I have the same problem with a CVP 55 and while I want to doctor a cable as you suggest I need a little more guidance, if you would be so kind. Basically I need to know if I need a plain floppy cable to start with or if I need one of the ones with some of the conductors twisted round as a block (as used in computers). If someone that has got theis to work could email me a picture of the completed cable that would be the greatest help. Many thanks Steve
